Mind which was also in christ jesus

Paul illustrates that attitude and approach in verses How did Jesus demonstrate this mindset? He was willing to be obedient, to give up something He had and to become the sacrifice for sin. The purpose was to make it possible for humans to be in the family of God. In this course of action, Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death for our sakes. He had the choice, and He chose obedience to His Father.

They were of one mind! We humans have the choice to have the mind of Christ. That means we have to develop the actions and deeds of humility and obedience to the Father. We tend to be greedy, self-centered, self-absorbed, dishonest and vain, looking out for ourselves and not so much for others. Loving our neighbor means looking out for their needs and treating them as we want to be treated Leviticus Leviticus [9] And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, neither shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.

But esteem each the others better than themselves - For every one knows more evil of himself than he can of another: Which is a glorious fruit of the Spirit, and an admirable help to your continuing of one soul.

If so, ye have not bowels of mercies. Of God - From eternity, as he was afterward in the form of man; real God, as real man. Counted it no act of robbery - That is the precise meaning of the words, - no invasion of another's prerogative, but his own strict and unquestionable right.

To be equal with God - the word here translated equal, occurs in the adjective form five or six times in the New Testament, Mt ; Lu ; Joh ; Ac ; Re In all which places it expresses not a bare resemblance, but a real and proper equalitg. It here implies both the fulness and the supreme height of the Godhead; to which are opposed, he emptied and he humbled himself. He was content to forego the glories of the Creator, and to appear in the form of a creature; nay, to he made in the likeness of the fallen creatures; and not only to share the disgrace, but to suffer the punishment, due to the meanest and vilest among them all.

He emptied himself - Of that divine fulness, which he received again at his exaltation. He died the death of the lowest of the low, the kind of death reserved for criminals and slaves, the most shameful, painful and accursed death of the cross. And He did that because that is what sin deserves.

Although He had no sins, He came to make satisfaction for the sins of His people, to save them from their sins. That, dear reader, is humility! To give up a privileged position—the highest position of glory—and to enter the lowliest position—a slave, and even a crucified man—is the greatest possible humility. And the one who did that is the Son of God—He is God! Will you say that serving others is beneath you, when the Son of God did not think the cross was beneath Him?

Will you insist on your dignity, convenience and welfare, when the Son of God thought nothing of His?
