She realizes that the grave in Bresha Ruins you help her find early in the game used to be her until all the fun paradox stuff started happening. I think in Bresha Ruins she even mentions that she was afraid that the grave had her name on it, but I can't remember for sure. When you failed to be stopped in the Void Beyond, her fate was sealed, and her part of the timeline righted itself.
If you go back to Academia after that, the only person who will remember Alyssa is Hope. User Info: Raltzer. She was afraid of disappearing and possibly being forgotten, so she went with Caius's plan to try and prevent it.
User Info: CBrate. It is explained. You remember that bit in Bresha Ruins with the gravestone? Alyssa's memories of dying instead of her friend? Alyssa died but a paradox means she's still alive.
What happens if our intrepid main characters continue 'fixing' these paradoxes? User Info: SlydeSlym. Yes and no. For keen observers there is a huge hint as to why she does it at the very beginning of the game. There is this scene with her when you find the cemetery in Bresha Ruins, where she tells you about her "dream" where her name is actually engraved on the tomb.
Therefore you can conclude she died in the original past once the player is told changing the future means changing the past. The cemetery scene is quite long and too "in your face" not to have any meaning. I wasn't sure if that was her saying it or not! We're running loops here!
There was no clear or consistent precedent for her having the ability to fuck with the Historia Crux before that and not explaining that without the paradox ending coupled with not being sure if that was actually her speaking gave me doubt.
I'm not saying they have to give away her motive before the act, but after the act at least addressing that double cross and how exactly she was able to do that, which the paradox ending addresses. In Hope's words in the pardox ending, "You can't just drop a bomb like that without any explanation. But that was before discovering the paradox ending, with which I am now satisfied! She died during the purge. When Serah an Noal fix the paradox, Alyssa was no more.
Yep, first two posts nailed it. Getting her arrested for it is one of the game's more satisfying alternate endings.
